Class Description

Creative Movement and Basic Rhythm is for the preschooler. This course of study is designed to create a solid foundation for future ballet training. Little ones will be encouraged to listen to music, learn rhythms, and move creatively.

Ballet students will be placed in a class according to age and technical ability. As the students advance, they will be encouraged to increase the number of classes taken. A lot of work and determination goes into making a good dancer.

Intermediate Ballet students take two classes of one and one half hours. These classes are designed to strengthen the dancer and develop ballet skills in preparation for and introduction to Pointe work. INTERMEDIATE BALLET is required for all Pointe students.

Pointe and Variations is offered for advanced ballet students with at least two years of Pointe work. INTERMEDIATE BALLET is required for acceptance in this very special class, which is designed to strengthen the dancer on Pointe and to teach variations from the classical repertoire.

Jazz classes will be offered for those students also taking ballet. The discipline of ballet provides a base for the jazz dancer to develop more freedom of movement with a strong sense of syncopation, musicality and coordination.

Tap is offered in half-hour and one hour formats. The rebirth of this popular dance form is due to the fun, the challenge and the confidence generated by how quickly Tap skills are developed.

Dance Equipment Each female student will be required to wear a leotard in the class color, pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Males will wear black tights, white T-shirt, white socks and white ballet slippers. All students must have elastic on their ballet slippers and their hair must be neatly arranged. A bun is standard hair style for females. Jazz shoes must be worn in jazz class and tap shoes must be worn in tap class.
